Pharmacy automation technology

Industry-leading automation,
integrated into your workflow.

Through our partnership with McKesson Canada, Promed Medical Logistics deploys two of the most-trusted pharmacy automation systems in the country — PACMED NS and PACVision — across our retirement home, long-term care, and central-fill operations.

PACMED NS pouch packaging machine
PACMED NS Series

High-capacity pouch packaging that scales with you.

PACMED NS is McKesson's flagship pouch-packaging system, designed for high-efficiency, high-capacity operation. It produces easy-to-use, portable, personalized, and secure compliance packaging — the same technology used by leading pharmacy chains and central-fill operations across Canada.

Reduces medication errors

Automated packaging removes the manual counting and sorting that introduce human error into traditional dispensing.

Special Tablet System (STS) trays

Allow uninterrupted packaging flow for non-canister medications and partial pills — no workflow breaks.

Convenient high-volume refilling

High-volume medication canisters positioned up-front for fast, easy refilling without disrupting production.

Built for compact spaces

One-sided design means efficient operation in a smaller workspace — ideal for retail pharmacies expanding their LTC service.

PACVision Inspection

Every pouch verified in under one second.

PACVision is McKesson's automated pouch inspection unit. It uses AI-powered colour recognition to verify each PACMED pouch for pill quantity, colour, size, and shape in under one second — consistently accurate without the fatigue that affects manual checks.

Industry-proven algorithm

Pill recognition trusted by leading pharmacy operations — verifies every pouch consistently, quickly, and securely.

Site-specific colour calibration

High-precision recognition method calibrated to the environmental characteristics of each pharmacy site for maximum accuracy.

Searchable image archive

Every verified pouch image stored and searchable for traceability, audit reviews, and dispute resolution.

Frequently asked

Common questions about our automation.

Traditional pouch systems rely on heavy manual intervention and have lower canister counts, which slows production and introduces error. PACMED NS uses high-capacity canisters, STS trays for non-canister medications, and continuous-flow design — meaning fewer interruptions, higher throughput, and significantly reduced human-error risk.
PACVision uses an industry-proven recognition algorithm paired with a site-specific colour-calibration method. Each pouch is photographed and analyzed for four attributes — quantity, colour, size, and shape — in less than one second. Discrepancies are flagged automatically, and every verified pouch image is archived for traceability.
PACMED NS is built for high-volume operations, but its one-sided design works well in compact spaces too. For smaller operations, McKesson also offers PACVision Model C — same core technology, smaller footprint, lower cost. Our team can recommend the right configuration based on your prescription volume and floor space.
You get professional pharmacy automation without the high upfront cost. Promed operates the equipment as part of our central-fill and LTC services — your pharmacy gets the speed, accuracy, and traceability of PACMED NS and PACVision while we handle operations and maintenance.
Every pouch produced gets a standardized barcode, and every pouch verified by PACVision is archived as a searchable image. This combination gives you a complete audit trail — pharmacy production through patient delivery — that's regulatory-ready for inspections and helps minimize liability risk.
